Our goal is to breed hardy homestead goats, without sacrificing milk production and show competiveness. We want our girls to be able to provide sufficient milk for a family, without needing all kinds of fancy supplements to do so. We want them to be good dams and have strong mothering instincts. What's the point in having a 1000+ lb. milker, if she needs grain, excellent pastures, and high-quality alfalfa 24/7 in order to produce that much milk? And that same doe will need to be up to date on wormers and vaccines? Of course there is absolutely no wrong in that! If I want a good dairy goat for our family/homestead I want her to be hardy and tough. Let's face it. Our pastures aren't always green and full of life. We all have our fair share of dry spells. So, we want our girls to be able to milk through that. Will we get a gallon of milk per day from each goat during that dry spell? Probably not. But will we get enough to use for our family? That's what we are shooting for. And besides, who wants a goat that'll cough and sneeze every time the cold/ winter starts sneaking in? Or a goat that'll get wormy at the first sign of rainy/wet/muddy season? Hardy, homestead friendly, durable, milk production, parasite resistance, and to be competitive in the show ring is our goal of what to breed for. Of course, we are not there yet. Soon, maybe.. 

Registered goats do have their perks. Knowing what kind of genetics, you will be dealing with along with knowing how the goat's dam's/sire's conformation and milking history is really good to know!

We raise Alpine's and Nigerian dwarf goats, both of which are known for their milk.
